Portugal
Staring into the ocean Portugal is the westernmost country of Europe, with a rich history of seafaring and discovery. The Atlantic archipelagos - one-of-a-kind Azores Islands and the tropical-like Madeira are also part of Portugal. Over the past 3 000 years, Portugal has experienced a constant ebb and flow of civilizations and cultures – each one leaving its strong imprint in art and architecture. The country has a bit old-fashioned charm. The landscape dominated by olive groves and vineyards is scattered with medieval castles and quiet villages. Portugal is known for the slow rhythm of life and festivals characterized by folk dance and music, particularly the traditional melancholy fado.
