Deutsch-Institut Tirol

Founded in 1981 by the current director, Hans Ebenhöh, the Deutsch-Institut Tirol has been welcoming students from all over the world for nearly 25 years. We concentrate on spoken German while also working on the other language disciplines of reading, writing and listening. All our teachers are native German speakers from Austria or Germany with a wealth of experience in the field of teaching German as a foreign language.

We attribute our success as much to our full free time programme as to our lively and enjoyable classes. We offer at least one activity per day, including evening classes, social programmes in which students sit in the relaxed environment of an Austrian Gasthaus and speak German in the company of a teacher. We also offer afternoon activities on 3 days, including visiting nearby Salzburg, Innsbruck, Munich and a host of other towns of interest to students for their cultural, historic or architectural value.

In winter, we are particularly privileged to be able to offer German courses combined with skiing or snowboarding. Kitzbühel is the most famous of Austria's ski resorts and hosts the annual world cup downhill race on the world famous Hahnenkamm mountain. This draws huge crowds and is the experience of a lifetime. The combination of learning German in the morning and skiing in the afternoon and at weekends is a winning one!

The Deutsch-Institut is open all year and offers courses for all standards, beginners' courses on the first Monday of the month. The Alps offer spectacular scenery all year round with plenty of sporting activities from hiking, rambling, mountain biking, walking, swimming in the natural lake, riding and golf. Kitzbühel boasts four golf courses with many more in easy driving distance from the town.

Kitzbühel is a medieval town with ancient buildings, the old town wall and cobbled streets now offering pavement cafés and boutiques. The apres ski atmosphere is evident all year round, with lively bars and nightclubs, a casino and restaurants making the nightlife a memorable part of your stay. For all its fame and beauty, Kitzbühel is a safe town and small enough for everything to be walking distance from the school. We aim to organise accommodation for students no more than a five minute walk from the school, thus avoiding the need to commute on public transport.

We offer a personal service when you contact us by email. One of the many advantages of a small school is that you get properly looked after by our office staff, and get to know the teachers and other students in your class and in other classes very well. All students live close to each other and find it easy to make friends with people from all over the world.

If you are interested in learning German well and quickly in small classes in a beautiful area of the German speaking world where you'll have plenty to do and lots of people to meet, the Deutsch-Institut is the school for you! We look forward to hearing from you soon!
