 Aberystwyth University offers a fun, friendly and supportive atmosphere for study. It is the only English language school in town, and the local population is very friendly and helpful towards our students. The Language and Learning Centre aims to provide a high quality, student centred, language learning experience. The staff are professionally qualified and experienced teachers of English as a Foreign Language and possess academic degrees in a variety of subjects.
The Centre offers the following courses:
SUMMER IN WALES
- English Language and Communication Skills
• This programme runs for 3 months over the summer period.
• Students attend for 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 weeks
• Adults over the age of 17 only
• All levels catered for
• Social programme included in the cost
- Pre-university Preparation (Pre-sessional) Programme
• Students attend this course before continuing onto a postgraduate or undergraduate degree within the University
• Students attend for 3, 6 or 12 weeks depending upon their level of English
• Social programme included in the cost
- Teacher Development
• This is a 2 week programme, which is designed as a professional development programme for English language teachers who are not native speakers of English
• Social programme included in the cost
During the summer, students are accommodated in self-catering, university Halls of Residence.
A Social programme is included.
All students have access to the sporting, computing and library facilities situated on campus.
 COURSES THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR
- International Pathways: Target English
• Students attend this course to achieve different goals. Reasons for taking Target English include:
• To improve general English.
• To improve English level before beginning a Foundation/Pre-masters programme.
• To improve English before starting a degree programme.
- International Pathways: Foundation Programme
• This is a nine-month programme designed to prepare students for entry to an Undergraduate degree.
• Current foundation courses include; Art, Business, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, International Politics, Media, Physics, etc.
- International Pathways: Pre-masters Programme
• This is a nine-month programme designed to help students enter a Postgraduate degree course.
• Current pre-masters courses include; Art, Business, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, International Politics, Media, etc.
Throughout their stay at Aberystwyth University, our students are treated as registered students. Therefore, they have access to all the facilities and services offered by the University, including computing, sports and library facilities.
