Maryville College

The Center for English Language Learning at Maryville College

The core curriculum includes grammar, reading, writing, and listening/speaking classes. We also offer some extra classes in subjects such as TOEFL preparation, pronunciation, English idioms, American culture, and so on.

The emphasis of our program is to improve a student's OVERALL English ability.

All of the classes work towards students being more fluent both orally and in writing communication. Thus, our graduates are well prepared to use English in any setting, including the TOEFL exam or other standard English exams such as the TOEIC, IELTS, etc.

You can join our program for just one of our sessions, or for any number of sessions. We have 12 levels of study, each level taking five weeks. New students are tested during their first days here, and placed into one of six entry levels.

CELL: About living at Maryville College

Most of our students live in residence halls on the Maryville College campus. For more information on residence life:
http://www.maryvillecollege.edu/students/halls.asp

The residence halls, cafeteria and International House are all within short l-3 minute walks.

Students often describe the Maryville College campus as being like a large park.
You can see more about the lovely campus at:

Students who live on campus eat their meals either in the Margaret Ware dining hall or Isaac's snack bar. At every meal there are many choices.

Our students have plenty of activities to choose from! All students in the CELL program have full access to all Maryville College facilities and functions. The College has a gymnasium with basketball courts, weight-training room, handball courts, swimming pool, and several sports and sports practice fields.
Students can join in all College activities, usually at no extra cost. The College programming board offers dances, music recitals by faculty and students, special concerts and lectures, and many fun activities.

There are activities each week planned specifically for our CELL students. We make trips to go whitewater rafting (warm months, April through October), we visit the tourist cities of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, we go hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and we take students to local shopping areas.
Also, downtown Maryville is just minutes away and has some very nice restaurants, bars and shops.
