The English as a Second Language Programs at Carleton University respond to the diverse needs of learners. All courses integrate the four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). We also present a variety of learning strategies for students who want to simply survive in a new English-speaking culture as well as for those who need to learn the advanced strategies required for professional or academic work. Our communicative, needs-based teaching is the foundation of our world-wide reputation for excellence in ESL. Qualified, dedicated instructors focus on helping students in all levels of ESL to use English creatively and efficiently, drawing in authentic audio, video, computer, and print materials, as well as guest speakers, community contact activities, and research resources.
